Rubik's Cube was invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik, a lecturer at the
Department of Interior Design at the Academy of Applied Arts and Crafts
in Budapest, Hungary. He was intersted in geometry, especially 3D
forms and their construstion. One day while watching the Danube flow
over some smooth pebbles, Rubik got the idea for a cylindrical internal
mechanism to allow easy manipulation of his 54-surfaced block.
The above applet is by Lars Petrus, a modification of
Karl Hörnell's original Rubik Unbound at
Java on the Brain.
